When it comes to US presidents i think they can all, some more than others, be compared to Socrates. This is because all politicians need to be able to argue why they are correct, and the better candidate. To be elected most people want a well spoken person. They don't go for some one who is going to have a week argument. Now the candidate might dodge the questions and run there thoughts in circles, but they still do it in a very intelligent manor.
I think that the president can be and should be compared to Confucius or like you said, Socrates. They are both wise and were great leaders of their time period, and many of the aspects and rules they spoke upon are still vibrant in our society today, one example being the Golden Rule. I agree, that the president should be well spoken, which I think all of them have been because in my opinion, they wouldn't have made it that far without good speech! Overall, the president should be a smart/intelligent, well-spoken, virtuous individual, nothing personal should be viewed when looking at a president.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I completely agree that most presidents, even presidential candidates, should be capable of holding their ground in an argument. In this regard Socrates is a great example seeing as how he, quite literally, died for his right to argue. Well done.
